MCA MAKES A DIFFERENCE: COUNTY REAL ESTATE TAXES AND THE COUNTY BUDGET

Scott Spitzer | Published on 5/10/2022

The B&T Committee chair testified at the Board of Supervisors public hearing, along with two other B&T Committee members and the chair of the MCA’s Environment, Parks & Recreation Committee.  During the preliminary Budget Mark-up session on April 26, the Board of Supervisors agreed to reduce the real estate tax rate to $1.11 per $100 of assessed value.

On May 10, 2022, the County Board of Supervisors voted for the FY 2023 County Budget with the changes adopted during mark-up, including the reduction in the real estate tax rate.

This demonstrates that with time and effort devoted to advocacy, MCA’s voice is being heard.  MCA was not the only civic association advocating for a reduction in the real estate tax rate and residential real property taxes for the average taxpayer still will increase.  However, MCA’s B&T Committee and its Board of Directors were focused on this issue and our sustained efforts were helpful in moderating the ultimate tax increase for homeowners. MCA once again has made a positive difference regarding our property taxes.
