MCA President Writes Sup. Foust Regarding Concerns with Mclean CBC Plan Amendment

Glenn Harris | Published on 12/9/2020

On November 30, 2020, MCA President Rob Jackson sent a letter to Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust regarding the MCA Board of Directors concerns about proposed revisions to the Comprehensive Plan (Plan) for the McLean Community Business Center.

The existing Plan was adopted in 1998.  In early 2018, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized a study of the McLean CBC, and Supervisor Foust appointed an advisory Task Force to advise County Staff regarding the study. The Task Force includes 20 members, representing a variety of civic, business, and residential interests, including two representatives of the MCA. Since then, County Staff, advised by the Task Force, have been working on proposed revisions to the Plan. The current draft (72 pages) and other materials can be accessed via this web-page:https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/planning-development/mclean-cbc-study

President Jackson’s letter resulted from a special MCA Board of Directors meeting that took place on November 18, 2020, and which reflected a vote by the MCA Board on its five most important concerns with the October 5, 2020 draft of the proposed amendment of the Plan.  These included: (1) ensuring parking availability; (2) concerns about density; (3) the need for effective stormwater management; (4) the need to provide a framework for environment stewardship similar to that contained in the Tysons Comprehensive Plan; and (5) provision for a sufficiently large Civic Park/Plaza in the CBC.  A copy of the letter can be accessed here: MCA President Letter to Sup. Foust Re CBC Plan Amendment.
