COVID-19 & Planning & Zoning

Rob Jackson | Published on 3/23/2020
Because of the extraordinary circumstances due to the COVID-19 virus, the Planning & Zoning Committee will not be holding public meetings but will operate under special rules.

We’ve decided to use the following procedures to operate P&Z during the time that in-person meetings should not be held for safety reasons. We will monitor the results and make appropriate adjustments.

1) get the presentations from the applicants; 2) post them to the website; 3) set a short period for committee member questions; 4) collect and forward the same to the applicant; 5) provide answers to the committee on a short turnaround; 6) set a short deadline for voting on an overall position; 7) provide all the input to the case manager, who will draft a resolution; 8) circulate for a final vote; and 9) send to the President.

All committee members have been notified of this change, as have the attorneys and land use planners who regularly appear before the committee.  Additionally, we have also notified key county personnel and officials, along with leaders of the McLean Planning Committee and the McLean Revitalization Corporation.

A number of land use law firms have contacted P&Z in support of this process.  Working together we can continue to provide important community input on land use applications while respecting the need of applicants to keep their projects moving.

We will update committee members, MCA members and the general public as appropriate.  Thank you to all for your cooperation during difficult times.
