MCA Supports Zoning Administrator on Newport Academy Davidson Rd

Published on 6/14/2019
On June 5, 2019, the board of directors for the McLean Citizens Association voted to approve a resolution from the Planning & Zoning Committee supporting the May 15, 2019 determination letter from the Fairfax County Zoning Administrator with respect to the Davidson Road properties of Newport Academy.

The Zoning Administrator concluded that the use of the Davidson Road properties was not a "group residential facility" but rather a "congregate living facility" based on changes in the facts.  As promised by the Planning & Zoning Committee, the change in material facts also caused the Committee to reevaluate the situation such that a resolution supporting the Zoning Administrator was drafted, approved by the Committee and presented to the MCA board for approval.

The resolution also opposes the grant of any special exception, variance or other permission that would allow Newport Academy to operate on the Davidson Road properties.

The resolution does not address the Kurtz Road property, which is still being evaluated by the County.  The County has not changed its earlier view that this property and its use was likely a "group residential facility."  The Planning & Zoning Committee continues to monitor this situation.
