MCA Urges FCPS to Review McLean-Langley Border to Address McLean Overcrowding

Published on 3/18/2019

The purpose of the McLean-Langley resolution is to promote a high level of urgency in the Board of education’s review and implementation of a, much needed, boundary change between McLean and Langley High Schools.  McLean High School is currently at 114% and is trending toward 126% capacity.  McLean High School has a mounting number of capacity related management challenges that are consuming the attention and talents of teachers and administrative staff.  Meanwhile, Langley High School is at 82% and is trending toward 79% capacity. A boundary change is a low-cost, common sense solution.

At a recent MCA sponsored Fairfax County budget review, the subject of boundary change was discussed.  While Superintendent Brabrand and Dranesville FCPS Board representative Jane Strauss both indicated strong support for a boundary change, they also suggested, what is likely, a long and deliberative review and implementation process.  Given the growing extreme capacity problem, we are urging a focused and time conscious effort to implement the boundary change as soon as possible.
