MCA Urges Resolution to Keep Claude Moore Colonial Farm Open

Published on 9/22/2018
Claude Moore Colonial Farm, located at 6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101 is a living history museum, that portrays a small family farm prior to the Revolutionary War.

As of this date, the Friends of Claude Moore Colonial Farm (operators of the Farm) and the National Park Service (owners of the Farm property) have not reached a new cooperative agreement for operation of the Colonial Park, either for short or long term operations. In a letter dated March 30, 2018, the National Park Service stated the Colonial Park will be closed to operations and the public by December 21, 2018, and the Friends of Claude Moore with be required to remove from the property all temporary, movable improvements and personal property, including livestock.

Citing "the long history of successful programming at the Colonial Farm, the value of this unique park to McLean and the broader community, and the outpouring of public support," the MCA "strongly encourages all parties to engage in a mediation process in order to facilitate a resolution so that this valuable facility continues to be enjoyed by the community."
