Dear MCA Members:
This will be my last newsletter as President of MCA. I am so proud to have had the opportunity to serve a McLean institution that has been supporting our community for over 110 years (some of our members have been part of MCA for a significant portion of those years -- see the Honor Roll, below). I will continue to serve as an MCA Board member and on MCA Committees and Liaison groups. I look forward to sharing our recent accomplishments at our Annual Meeting (details below) and to working together in the years to come.
I was happy to testify at the Board of Supervisors meeting to oppose the casino in Fairfax and exhilarated about the casino defeat (read the four letters thanking Governor Spanberger, Chairman McKay, Supervisor Bierman, and members of the general assembly, below).
As always, I'm excited about McLean Day and especially the MCA Teen Awards (note below). Please visit the MCA booth, and don't forget to vote for MCC Governing Board candidates.
I thoroughly enjoy working with the MCA Board, the County Supervisor and Staff as well as other community organizations (MRC, MCC, MCF, MPA, McLean Art Society, etc.), MCA members and all McLean residents. We have chosen a good place to live and thrive.
Regards,
Camille

MCA is again sponsoring Teen Character Awards to recognize teens with exceptional ethical and compassionate character. Teens who have, on their own and without compensation or formal recognition, cared for elderly relatives or younger siblings, or who have helped out in the neighborhood or anywhere in the greater DC area, deserve to be recognized not only for themselves but as examples to others.
The nomination period has closed. Award certificates will be presented on the outdoor stage at McLean Day at 1:30 p.m. (new time) on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Names of award winners will be provided to the local newspapers to highlight recognition of the teens' achievements.

MCA is grateful for the support of Dranesville Supervisor Jimmy Bierman, who consistently and tirelessly opposed the casino bill; Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay, who rallied the BoS to oppose the bill; those members of the Virginia General Assembly who voted against the bill; and Governor Abigail Spanberger, who vetoed it.
At its May meeting, MCA approved letters thanking the above public servants for their opposition, in particular for their recognition of the importance of preserving local land-use authority and ensuring that major development decisions reflect the priorities and input of Fairfax County residents.
MCA also wants to thank you, our members, for writing letters, making phone calls, walking the halls of Richmond, and helping to make your opinion known. This bill could not have been defeated without your efforts.
Senator Surovell, sponsor of SB 756, has announced his intention to introduce similar legislation in 2027. We at MCA know that if necessary, you will be there to oppose a casino bill in any form.
| MCA Supports Funding for Haycock Road Shared Use Path
In a letter responding to Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA)'s request for comments on its FY2026-2031 Six Year Program, MCA put its weight behind securing funding for the Haycock Road Shared Use Path (SUP) Project.
As MCA explained in its letter, the SUP, which would run from the intersection of Shreve Road and Route 7 to the intersection of Haycock Road and Falls Church Drive,
would provide a critical multimodal connection between the W&OD Trail and the Secondary Schools Campus, West Falls Project, and the West Falls Church Metrorail Station, along with other benefits.
The Transportation Committee's next meeting is on Tuesday, May 12th, at 7 pm via Zoom. Contact Committee Chair Glenn Harris for more information. | Planning & Zoning
