Calling all HOA/CA Board Members and Community Leaders living in a common interest community!  As previously notified, the MCA is hosting a Homeowner/Condominium Association Leader Forum.  It is very important that our community leaders are aware of changes in legislation and prepare for future changes!  Information relayed by our guest speakers can help you avoid some costly pitfalls, plan for the future, and point you in the right direction when you need help!

Review of Common Interest Community Ombudsman Regulations and Complaint Procedures

    Heather S Gillespie, Common Interest Community (CIC) Ombudsman, Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation

What recourse do owners have if they disagree with a decision made by the HOA/CA Board of Directors?  Ms. Gillespie will explain the CIC Complaint process.  Find out what steps a Board should take to avoid CIC Complaints.

Enacted Legislation and what might be considered in the 2020 Legislative Session and Recent VA Supreme Court Case – Sainani v. Belmont Glen Homeowners Ass’n.

The 2019 Legislation focused on adequacy of capital reserves and financial disclosure especially as it relates to storm-water management.  New legislation allows email notification even if your governing documents require postal delivery.  Learn about the process you must follow to get owners' permission for email notification.  What legislation might be considered in 2020?  Review of the recent Virginia Supreme Court Case regarding holiday decorations.

Fairfax County Short-Term Lodging regulation effective October 1, 2018
