INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON THE WEST FALLS CHURCH METRO STATION REDEVELOPMENT

Published on 12/1/2022

MCA members, in their personal capacity, are serving on the West Falls Church Active Transportation Study Advisory Group. Still others are actively involved in representing their respective Homeowner Associations.

The WMATA Metro Station site proposal provides for 110,00 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet of ground floor retail, 810 multifamily units and 90 towns. It will also involve construction of a grid of streets, critical bus, bike, pedestrian and transit infrastructure, plus recreation spaces to include a dog park, children’s playground and civic gathering spaces. The project is scheduled for a hearing before the County Planning Commission on February 9, 2023.  Construction will start in 2024.

The Converge proposal is expected to comprise 820,000 square feet of residential, office and retail space that will replace the current Virginia Tech satellite campus.  Three new buildings will include a 15-story multifamily tower with ground-floor retail: a six-story office building which will house HITT Contracting’s headquarters and Virginia Tech’s applied research lab; and, a one-story retail pavilion in the boulevard between the two towers. The developer expects approval of the Conceptual and Final Develop Plans in spring 2023 and to start construction in 2025.

Audience questions and comments focused on the impact of increased density on traffic flow and congestion, as well as school attendance, noise pollution, conserving tree coverage and the location of the dog park.
