MCA ISSUES RESOLUTION NOT SUPPORTING A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE COUNTY AIRPORT NOISE POLICY

Scott Spitzer | Published on 5/10/2022

The Proposed Amendment was developed by County Staff based in part on a consultant’s report which included review of an earlier study by a consultant to the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority. The County Staff requested community input from MCA and briefed the Planning and Zoning Committee (the Committee) on the Proposed Amendment at the Committee’s meeting on February 22, 2022. Subsequent to the meeting, the Committee sent a letter to the County Staff expressing its concerns regarding the Proposed Amendment.  The Director of the County Department of Planning and Development responded to the Committee’s letter by letter on May 4, 2022.

The Committee’s draft Resolution not supporting the Proposed Amendment was approved by the MCA Board of Directors at its meeting on May 4, 2022. The Resolution’s rationale includes that the Proposed Amendment offers few potential benefits to the County at large while not addressing important concerns, introducing unnecessary economic risks to Dulles International Airport, and creating potential harms to future County residents.   The resolution is 2022-05-04-Airport Noise Plan Amendment.
