Meeting on WMATA Budget and Service Cuts

Sally K Horn | Published on 1/14/2021
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, the Greater Tysons Citizen Coalition and MCA’s Transportation Committee zoomed with Gregory Potts (WMATA’s Virginia Government Affairs Officer), Ronit Dancis (Tysons Partnership’s Transportation Management Director) and Sonya Breehey (Northern Virginia Advocacy Manager for the Coalition on Smarter Growth). Gregory Potts explained that, with the infusion of federal funding for public transit in the second COVID relief bill, WMATA will be able to avoid cuts to its budget and rail and bus schedules for the remainder of Calendar Year 2021. But, absent additional federal funding, federal funding will dry up at the end of 2021 and draconian cuts likely would need to be implemented beginning in January 2022.
